Using the Library Catalog
(1) Search for books using Unicorn, the SCC Library Catalog. The link to Unicorn is found on the right hand side of the library webpage http://library.sccsc.edu under the heading Books, Videos...

(2) This is
Unicorn, the SCC Library catalog.
You can search the catalog by "words" or "phrase," "author,"
"title," or "subject."
The default search is keyword.

(3) To do a subject search, select "subject" in the drop down box as shown.

(4) Enter the subject in
the box and click the search button.
For example, to find books and videos on how to write a resume,
you would do a subject search for "resumes."

(5) You will then see a list of books and videos with "resumes" as one of the subject terms. To find the item in the library, you need the item’s call number, a group of letters and numbers located at the upper left corner of the item record. Books and videos are put on the shelf according to their call numbers. The call number serves as its address on the shelf. We will look at the third title on our list. The call number for Amazing Resumes: What Employers Want to See--and How To Say It is HF5383 .B69 2006.

(6) You also need to know the location of the book. This information is found at the bottom of the record. If it says STACKS, the item is in the circulating collection and can be checked out; REFERENCE means it is in the reference collection; AV means it is in the library’s audio-visual collection. Amazing Resumes: What Employers Want to See--And How to Say It is in STACKS. To find out more information about a book click on details.

(7) Clicking the "Details" button takes you to more information about the book. Notice there are 3 tabs. The first tab, "Item Information," gives information, such as when and where it was published. The call number and the location can be found at the bottom of this section.

(8) Clicking on the second tab takes you to "A Look Inside." Depending on the book, this tab may contain book summaries, book reviews, or the table of contents. Note - Not all records have this tab.
(9) Clicking on "Catalog Record" gets you to more subject terms. To search for any of these subjects, just click on the link.
