Searching CultureGrams

Search CultureGrams for information on daily life, culture, history, customs and maps of 181 nations.

(1) From the SCC Library homepage, http://library.sccsc.edu, select "International Resources" listed under the "Topic Databases" heading.

 

(2) Select "CultureGrams"
Important Information - To access CultureGrams from off campus you must first enter the "Off Campus Username and Password. The off campus access page will appear. Then select "International Resources" again. Follow the instructions listed to access CultureGrams.

Note - The username and password is not the same as the "Off Campus Username and Password. You must enter a different username and password if you are not using CultureGrams from the SCC Campus.

(3) Click on World Edition

(4) There are two way to find your country.

Method 1: Use the drop down box in the upper left corner to see an alphabetical list of countries. Select the country you wish to view.

Method 2: Use the map and click a picture of one of the continents. A picture of the continent with countries listed will open. Select the country you wish to view.

(5) Once you have selected your country, you will see a screen that gives you a general overview of the country. On the left hand side of the page are links to more detailed information about the country listed by various topics. Topics include:
Background-information about the land and its history
People-religion, dress etc.
Customs and Courtesies- greetings, gestures, etc.
Lifestyle—family, marriage, holidays, commerce etc.
Society- government, economy, transportation, education, health
At a Glance-events and trends, contact information

(6) To view complete report information on your country, click either the "view full report as PDF" (this view includes images) or "view accessible report" (this view is text only) links on the upper right hand corner of the screen.

(7) To cite your CultureGrams article using MLA format, follow the example listed on the SCC Library MLA Format guide
