Consortium Fees and Membership Responsibilities
Listed below are the membership fees and responsibilities associated with joining the SCILS consortium. Annual membership fees vary. When you decide you want to pursue membership, a non-refundable deposit of $1000 is required. If the membership application process is not completed within a year of the original deposit, that deposit will be forfeited and the process must be started again. The SCILS System Librarian will consult with you, as well as SIRSI, to obtain a more accurate price quote for migrating your library’s records to the SCILS database.
Figures may be higher or lower based on a particular library’s situation. Potential members must plan for ongoing expenses related to routine consortium participation, changes and/or additions to the system, upgrades, and training.
FEES TO JOIN SCILS (2008-2009)
$15,000.00 Initial Membership Fee ($1000 deposit credited toward this)
$4,000.00 Training (With SCILS Librarian and/or TAC chair-5 days)
$2,000.00 Pre-installation Consulting Services includes 1 day site visit
$600.00 SOLINET initial Membership Fee (if not already a member)
· All expenses charged by Sirsi in relation to migrating your records into the SCILS database including for any miscellaneous expenses such as dedupping of your records, training, etc.
· Expenses for any additional training deemed necessary by SCILS to keep consistence and to maintain high quality of the SCILS database
· Netlibrary eBooks collections (including purchase of any previous collections that are available)
· Computer upgrades as necessary
· Provide an IT contact willing to have an on-going working relationship with SCILS
· Agree to accommodate the technical requirements for connectivity established by SCILS which will be based in part on the technical requirements of SIRSI. SCILS strives to maintain currency with the SIRSI software and all members agree to meet minimum standards for any new SIRSI software releases
· Ensure library staff participation at all appropriate meetings, training and continuing education programs
· Abide by the common policies, protocols, rules and regulations adopted by SCILS
· Have access to the Internet and an online catalog
· Provide its collections in machine readable format for migration
· Abide by all SCILS bibliographic standards
· Cooperate with OCLC, regional networks and other partners, and participating libraries to identify and correct errors in bibliographic records and to avoid introducing duplicate records
· Create and modify bibliographic records at the fullest possible level, consistent with the basic standards and guidelines including the latest AACR standards and OCLC Bibliographic Formats and Standards
Cost per institution is calculated on a cost sharing formula based on a FTE three-year average.
Annual membership fee includes:
· SIRSI software maintenance
· Unix hardware maintenance
· Ilink data added content
· Authority processing
· Documentation
· Salary and travel for System Librarian
· Memory upgrade (when needed)
· Training (when needed)
· Other approved expenses

To confirm intent to become a member of the South Carolina Information and Library Services Consortium within 60 days of this date. Completion of the essential work and payment of the required fees to become a full member will be done within one year from this date.
We have read the South Carolina Information and Library Services Consortium Agreement and Bylaws and understand the content fully. In addition, we agree to the financial and other obligations as presented by SIRSI, SOLINET, PASCAL and the SCILS consortium to become members and maintain membership.
