Code of laws
Policy
-
Serial records must be
used for publications that are updated yearly (annually) or more frequently.
-
Do not download monograph records
for annual publications.
-
Only exceptions are known titles
that frequently change titles.
Searching for
records (if title includes a year)
-
Do not
search for yearly monograph series by ISBN
-
Search by ISSN if
available
-
Search by title if ISSN is
not available
Special
considerations:
-
Year can be very old.
The date on a monographic serials record is for the first year it was
published, not the year of the current volume.
-
ISBN will not be listed on the
record, but can add 020 with each year’s ISBN
-
Will not list page numbers just
v. to indicate still getting volumes
-
Some minor details might not
match
-
Title changes may indicate the
need for a new record but not always. Contact SCILS Librarian if title
changes on a monographic series if you are not familiar with the CONSER
practices
-
Should use serial record even if
discard the previous year when you get a new year
-
Can update the 505 with contents
for reference series likes Short Stories for Students when new volume comes
in as long as follow the proper formatting for 505s.
