Reporter Bridget Jones finds herself once again torn between two very different men when she suspects her current boyfriend of having an affair.  There are several twists and turns and one incident that even leaves Bridget incarcerated!   A witty, hilarious read for any woman who’s ever had “man trouble”.

 

Goodnight Nobody by Jennifer Weiner

When bored mother of three, Kate Klein, discovers her neighbor murdered, she decides to pursue the case all on her on, much to the dismay of her husband.  To further complicate matters, her old unrequited love interest is a part-time detective who is on the case.  A fun, thrilling read!

 

Confessions of a Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella

Any woman who loves to shop should pick up this witty tale of 25-year-old Rebecca Bloomwood, a financial journalist whose credit card bills come in faster than she can pay them, and who can’t quit buying the fabulous things she so desires.  Throw in a little romance and you’ve got a perfect “chick lit” read.

 

Hanging Up by Delia Ephron

Eve Mozell has it hard in life.  She is the middle daughter in her family, nestled between an older magazine editor and a younger soap opera actress.  She is overworked, and no one, namely her workaholic husband, teenage son, or alcoholic father seems to care.  To make matters worse, she is the main one caring for her father, who suffers from senility.  At times funny and sad, this is a novel many overworked women can relate to.

 

Summer Sisters by Judy Blume

Caitlin Somers and Victoria Leonard are as different as can be, but they are inseparable friends.  Caitlin invites Victoria to Martha’s Vineyard with her family for the summer, where they both indulge in many of romantic liaisons.  They grow and change over the years, but remain friends, until Caitlin does something that could challenge their friendship forever.

 

The Nanny Diaries by Emma McLaughlin and Nicola Kraus

This funny and poignant look into the lives of upper class New York families is told from the point of view of Nanny, a college student who takes the job of nanny for a family’s temperamental four-year-old son.  Nanny is mentally and physically pushed to the brink by her charge, his mother, his father, and even his father’s mistress.

College graduate Andy takes a job as an assistant to Miranda, a fashion magazine editor.  As Andy is thrust into the glamorous world of fashion, Miranda demands that she complete everything from demeaning errands to impossible tasks.  Andy must soon make a choice to remain with Miranda and obtain a coveted job opportunity or salvage what is left of her health and relationships.
 

Shopgirl by Steve Martin

Comedic actor Steve Martin creates the character of Mirabelle, a lonely young woman who is a long way from home and is in search of herself.  Instead, she finds herself caught between two unlikely and very different suitors. 

 

Miss Understanding by Stephanie Lessing

When ultra-feminist Zoe Rose becomes the editor for a fluffy fashion magazine, she has big plans to change it into a serious woman’s magazine.  To complicate matters, Zoe suffers from OCD as well as hypochondria, and many staff members do not like her new ideas.
