Books-
The subject term for books about the south is "southern states." This subject terms works in both Netlibrary eBooks and in the library's catalog.
To narrow this topic, do a key word search and add terms. For example, "southern states and culture" or "southern states" and language" there are some good books---- for example "Whistlin' Dixie: A Dictionary of Southern Expressions
There are also some books on the southern language in eBooks-- again, do a keyword search for "southern states and language" (be sure it is a keyword search and not full text). Some of these books are very scholarly--so you may need to take some time with them to find what you want in them
Articles-
The
subject term in
the Gale Databases is also "southern
states." For example, you can find some good
articles by doing a basic search for "southern
states and language" and clicking on the
"subject" box. Be sure to look under all the
tabs (magazines, journals, etc)
Good website:
http://www.docsouth.unc.edu
collection of primary resources
about
the culture, literature, and history of the
American South. To access various topics, click
on "Subjects." Uses the same subject terms as
are in the library catalog for example:
"Southern States--Social Life and Customs."
